Athletic Events Clear Bag Policy

Camden Fairview School District

Athletic Events Clear Bag Policy

Adopted July 20, 2023

In an effort to provide a safer environment and improve security, Camden Fairview School District has implemented a Clear Bag Policy that limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into stadiums, gymnasiums and other athletic venues.* Prohibited items include but are not limited to purses larger than a 4.5” x 6.5” clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, grocery bags, cinch bags, luggage of any kind, computer bags, and camera bags, or any bag larger than the permissible size.

Bags that are permitted include:

  • Tote bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags
  • Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap, no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” (approximately the size of a hand)

Bags not permitted:

  • Backpacks, printed plastic bags, fanny packs, purses, reusable grocery totes, mesh or straw bags, duffle bags, large totes, and camera or binocular cases.
  • Diaper bags are not allowed. Items normally carried in a diaper bag must be put into a clear plastic bag for venue entry.

There are no provisions available to store or safeguard any prohibited bags. CFSD is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

*The policy applies to events at district athletic venues ONLY. An exception will be made for credentialed media and medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate by the respective gate supervisor.

Clear Bag Policy

FAQs

  • The safety of our students, staff, and community is our top priority. Safety and security policies are reviewed annually. These protective measures are intended to enhance safety in CFSD facilities and allow an efficient screening process to ensure all fans have an enjoyable and safe experience.

  • Clear bags are easily and quickly searched and reduce faulty bag searches.

  • Each ticket holder can bring in one large clear bag, either a one-gallon Ziploc-style bag or the 12” x 6” x 12” clear bag, plus one small bag (no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”, approximately the size of a hand). The larger bag must be a standard 12” x 6” x 12” bag made of clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC. One-gallon Ziploc bags are readily available and inexpensive. The small bag allows privacy for personal items.

  • Yes. Approved cameras, binoculars, smartphones, and tablets can be carried into the stadium as long as they are not in their own bag. The Clear Bag Policy only restricts the type of containers used to carry approved items into athletic events.

  • The following items are PERMITTED:

    • Bags approved under the Clear Bag Policy
    • Binoculars shorter than 6-inch (case prohibited)
    • Cameras with 3-inch lenses or shorter (no lights, tripods, or monopods)*
    • Diapers and wipes may be carried in a permissible 12”x6”x12” clear bag (diaper bags are not permitted)
    • Flags smaller than 2’ x 3’
    • Seat cushions
    • Strollers
    • Sunscreen & hand-powered misters
    • Umbrellas (please do not obstruct other fans’ views)

    The following are PROHIBITED:

    • Aerosol cans
    • Backpacks
    • Bags that violate the Clear Bag Policy
    • Cameras with lenses larger than 3-inches (lights, tripods, and monopods are also prohibited)*
    • Cans, glass bottles, or alcoholic beverages
    • Drugs and drug paraphernalia
    • Coolers (including soft-sided coolers)
    • Intoxication or signs of impairment related to drugs or alcohol
    • Irresponsible or reckless behavior
    • Laptops or laptop bags
    • Laser pointers
    • Offensive clothing
    • Plastic bottles larger than 24 ounces
    • Weapons of any kind

*Approved media may bring in cameras with lenses larger than 3-inches. A media pass must be provided by the photographer at the entrance.

  • The Clear Bag Policy applies to athletic events throughout the district, including but not limited to football games at Cardinal Stadium, volleyball and basketball games at school gyms, and baseball and softball games.

  • Fans carrying bags that do not comply with the Clear Bags Policy will be asked to transfer their items to an approved clear plastic bag before entering the venue. There are no provisions available to store or safeguard prohibited bags. CFSD is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • The Clear Bag Policy contains an exception for bags containing medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate by the gate supervisor.

  • No. Small clutch purses, with or without a handle or strap, that are no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” are permitted along with either the 12” x 6” x 12” clear bags or one-gallon clear Ziploc-style bags. This should enable fans to carry the same items that you have in previous visits.

  • Diapers and wipes may be carried in a permissible 12” x 6” x 12” clear bag. Each member of a family, including children, will be allowed to carry an approved clear bag and an approved small bag into the venue.

  • We are making every effort to ensure that this security enhancement doesn’t slow down the process of getting into athletic events.

Initially, as with any new process, fans may experience longer wait times. We will have extra staff on duty to help facilitate the quickest entry possible. We encourage fans to arrive at the venue 30 minutes earlier than normal to mitigate wait times.

  • No. We are limiting only the type of bags carried into athletic venues, not items that you normally bring to a game. You will continue to have the flexibility to bring a wide variety of approved items into athletic venues. You can carry permitted items in your pockets or jacket (such as keys, phone, wallet, credit cards, makeup, etc.) if you choose not to put them in a clear bag or small clutch. You can also carry in a blanket, as well as binoculars and/or a camera without their cases. You can use the clear bag and small clutch to carry other items. Every member of your family, including children, may carry an approved clear bag and a small clutch into the venue.

  • Arrive early, know which items are prohibited, and avoid bringing a bag if at all possible. If you need a bag, ensure your bag is Clear Bag Policy approved.

  • Student participants will be allowed to bring school-issued equipment bags into the venue under the supervision and guidelines of their coach or faculty sponsor.

  • Exceptions to the Clear Bag Policy will be made for credentialed media after proper inspection at a gate by the gate supervisor.
